The Rundown
Mobile App & Responsive Website Design
November 2022 to December 2022
The Rundown is an app and website that allows users to track, update, and view team and individual player stats for high school athletes.
Project Overview
-
UX designer designing a website for the den from conception to delivery.
-
Conducting interviews, paper and digital wire-framing, low-fidelity and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs.
-
The Rundown users want a simpler way for coaches to update stats and information that also allows them to share with their players and other coaches.
-
Design an app and responsive website that allows users to easily view team and player stats for high school sports.
Understanding the User
I conducted interviews to determine my users’ needs, wants, likes, and dislikes for an app and website that allows users to view and track player stats and information. I then grouped their responses to create two persona that would be a part of my target audience. The first user group includes high school athletes who want to play sports at the college level. The second user group includes high school coaches.
These user groups allowed me to understand what would make this app and website better for both student-athletes and members of a coaching staff. Through my research, I gained that users would like a straightforward want to track, update and view stats.
Pain Points
Fees
Users usually need paid memberships or some team and player information is held behind paywalls.
Out of Date
Team and player information is not always updated for a new season and for each game played.
Updating Info
Updating player information can be a tedious process for some coaches who are not as tech savvy.
Personas
Sadie Roberts
Sadie Roberts is a high school student-athlete who needs a way to view and share her stats because potential college teams need to see how she performs in her sport.
Frustrations
Having to pay membership fees on stats platforms
Team information not being regularly updated
Coach Dillon McKee
Coach Dillon Mckee is a high school basketball coach who needs a way to track and document team and player stats because his students need to be able to access accurate and updated player information.
Frustrations
Current options have too many paywalls for the team and students
Saving options are not the best on the current platform the team is using

Usability Study Findings:
Users wanted to see less clutter on pages that would hold a lot of information.
Users suggested breaking main stats pages into multiple pages. For example, team stats were broken down into three pages versus a long scrolling page.
Users wanted a quick way to find their player profile page. This shortcut was added to headers and pop-out menus.
What I Learned
When building a dedicated app and responsive website for the same platform, I learned how to make changes based on the screen or device I am designing for. For example, the app provides a quicker view of player stats while there is expanded information on the website pages.
